'Charity begins at home, but that is not where it should end'
Mission in Action in Nakuru, Kenya is a children's home and school, founded in 2004 and run by Ivan (originally from Australia) and Damaris. MIA endeavours to raise their children (over 100 of them!) in a loving, safe, family environment while offering them education and opportunities to become productive members of their community as adults. Their community outreach programs aim to make a difference to people who are in some form of crisis with poverty, hunger or disease.
MIA used the funds raised from Climb for Kenya 2014 to replace one of their old vans that no longer ran. This enabled the MIA children to be transported in to town (and beyond!) for day trips and excursions! The vans also act as a source of income for safari groups, and also assist in school transport.
In 2015, Mission in Action will use the proceeds of our Everest base camp trek to build a playground for the older MIA kids and students.
